A Photo a Week Challenge: Dark Green

Dark, dark green is my favorite color. It has been since I can remember. The deeper and darker the better. I love walking through woods and forests. I love the old, decrepit pine trees that shade the east side of our house. I love the smell of wet trees (is that weird?). When plants begin to grow, no matter what they will turn into, the first bit that pops up out of the ground is green. To me, green is the color of life.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Into the Woods

There has been a recent rash of productions of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods in our neck of the woods lately. My stepson just finished a production (his last in high school) where he played the Mysterious Man. If you haven’t seen a performance of this musical, it’s well worth the time. Anyway, all of these productions of this play got me thinking. For the Memorial Day weekend, we headed up into the High Unitah Mountains and saw some amazing scenery (check out the twisted tree we came upon). I wonder what it would be like to be wandering around these woods on foot in the dark with no modern help to guide me. This is bear territory (not wolves, like in the play), and you have to be careful of cougars, too (the animal kind, not the BYU variety).

Do you live near a wooded landscape? Is there an amazing forest just beyond your property line? Do you have to drive (or fly) miles to see trees that haven’t been landscaped to within an inch of their lives? What else can be considered a wood or forest? New York has been described as the Concrete Jungle. Is there a Steel Forest near you? Have fun with any concept that represents “woods.”
