A Photo a Week Challenge: Unexpected

A few weeks ago, I posted a challenge for an unexpected focus. This week, the prompt is simply unexpected. While visiting the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival a few years ago, we were met with unexpected rain. We grabbed some umbrellas as we headed out into the gardens. Our daughter soon found out that her umbrella had a slight problem. Any amount of wind and it would flip inside-out. The first time it happened was right when we were setting up this shot, so this is the one I got first. And it is my favorite, if only for the look on her face.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE…) FEATURING SOMETHING UNEXPECTED.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography. Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Unexpected

I was taking photos at a man-made waterskiing lake (an interesting site visit for work) when I captured a fish giving me a little wave. Apparently the lake is also stocked with some descent-sized trout. It was a fun moment. I love it when I notice something unexpected in photos.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Unexpected Windows

Have you ever walked pass an opening in a wall or barrier and suddenly an amazing view opened up? I love unexpected windows. It’s like viewing a whole different world, even if it’s your own backyard through your backdoor.

This photo was taken from the William I Monument in Koblenz, Germany looking north up the Rhine River.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE…) USING AN UNUSUAL WINDOW.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Whimsical

What is life without a bit of whimsy? I love whimsy. I love finding things that speak to my inner child and make me smile in the silliest of ways. While walking around Budapest on our last day in the city, a group of tiny car drivers passed us, and I was only quick enough to grab a shot of the last one. Apparently you can rent this little vehicles and hot rod it around the city. What a fun idea! I wish we had known sooner. Maybe next time we are in Hungary.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unexpected

Really big carrotsWe love to garden. Every spring, we plan what we want to grow that year. We plot out what goes where and how much of each veggie to plant. We always plant carrots. We love carrots. We eat a lot of carrots. This year, we were surprised to find that although the carrots didn’t get long, they sure did get fat. Serendipitous for us.
