A Photo a Week Challenge: Sleeping

I love sleeping. I love being asleep. When the alarm goes off in the morning, I’m a little too likely to snooze one or two times beyond what I should to keep my morning from being a series of frantic movements to get out the door and to the office. Interestingly enough, though, I have a hard time sleeping in once the sun hits my bedroom windows. My husband? Not so much. He can sleep pretty much anywhere. Lucky guy. It was challenging to get this little cutie to settle down for her pictures, until her mom put her in her snuggly pink bear suit. Once she was enfolded in the bliss of pink plushiness, she feel right to sleep.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE OR…) OF PEOPLE OR ANIMALS THAT ARE ASLEEP.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography. Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

A Photo a Week Challenge: At Play

Action shots. Action shots can be so tricky. Indoor action shots can be a nightmare. These sweet girls are cousins and bestest buddies. When they are together, they are together. It’s almost impossible to separate them. And they play together so well. You can see it in their faces. I took a few of them playing in the teepee, but finally asked them to pose for me. It was still hard for them to be still for the time it took for me to focus and click. And yes, I adore them.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) OF PLAYING.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Brown

Next week is Thanksgiving, so this week the challenge is the color I associate the most with that American holiday: brown. Deep, dark, rich browns are so wonderful for photography. For this little guy, the deep brown blanket was a perfect contrast for his perfect skin and red hair.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO (OR TWO OR THREE) THAT FEATURES THE COLOR BROWN.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Something new

One of my greatest joys as a photographer is taking pictures of brand-new babies. This little cutie was only three days old when I took her newborn photos. She was restless, cried a little, slept a lot, and was just generally so sweet and precious. It always stops me when I think of how amazing new life really is.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) OF SOMETHING NEW.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Flying

flying_nmp

I love flying. I love traveling and visit new places, and the fastest and easiest way to get somewhere far away is flying. I’ve flown around the world (almost literally). I’ve been to Korea and Europe, the South Pacific and Great Britain. I’ve flown across the United States multiple times. However, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed flying as much as my sweet little subject for this great family photo shoot. She loves lying on her stomach and flinging out her arms and legs. Her mom and grandmother were standing behind me, encouraging her. And I got to experience joy front and center.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) THAT FEATURE FLYING OR FLIGHT.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Black & White

pw_bw_nmp

Looking back through past challenges, I found that I have never done a dedicated black and white challenge. It really surprised me. I love editing in black and white. When I was still shooting with film, I loved using black and white dedicated film, especially for slides. There’s something amazing about black and white images. They are instantly nostalgic and artistic.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE).
