A Photo a Week Challenge: Natural Monuments

The world is filled with amazing natural wonders. Sometimes, we travel half way around the world to see them, like we did this summer to see the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Sometimes, you find them closer to home. The red rock canyons of southern Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona are within a day’s drive of our home. We love traveling the globe and finding fascinating places to visit and photograph.

Water controls so much of our lives. Without it, we literally would not survive. When people settle in a new place, the first thing they have to find is drinkable water. So many towns and cities throughout the world are built on rivers, lakes, and ocean shores. The River Aare runs through the town of Solothurn, Switzerland. Walking along the riverfront in the evening provides lovely views and interesting places to grab anything from a quick drink to a full meal to some delicious gelato.

I’m so glad that hats are back in style. They can add so much character to an outfit. I grabbed this photo of my niece on a boat trip on Lake Lugano. We bought hats from a vendor at the dock and were grateful for the shade as well as the fun styles. They even traveled back to the States in great shape.

We just came back from an amazing trip to one of my bucket list travel destinations: Switzerland, home of the precise time keepers. When traveling through this beautiful country, you can’t help but notice that the Swiss will put a clock on any tower. While it is not difficult to lose track of time while looking at the scenery or walking through a cathedral or castle ruin, you don’t have to search very far to find the time.
