Thankful November 25th: Heat
Today is our first real snow storm here in Utah, and it’s supposed to last the entire week. Yay us. Sort of. Today, I am grateful for heat. Well-built fires, forced-air vents, a down-filled coat, a simple knit hat, a sun-heated beach. These are a few of my favorite things.
Thankful November 22nd: The Moon

I love taking pictures of the moon. It took me a while to figure out how to do it well, and I have to admit that on the really cool I cheated. That photo was taken with a camera telescope at an observatory, but I did take it.
The moon is an amazing heavenly object. without it, you earth would probably not be inhabitable. It regulates our tides and keeps the earth from spinning faster than it should. It’s also beautiful in the night sky.

I know that I’ve already expressed gratitude for the earth and its beauties, but I am also very grateful for the chance I’ve had (and continue to have) to travel many places around the world and also close to home. When my husband and I got married, he hadn’t traveled much. A couple of years after we married, I convinced him that we needed to take a trip to Great Britain to visit a nephew who had been transferred to London for a year, along with his wife and three boys. It was the best thing that could have happened to us. Since then, we have made a few more trips across the pond to the east, across the pond to the west, and headed down south for my first experience in Mexico (besides Tijuana). I’m looking forward to many more adventures around this amazing globe we live on in the near and distant future.
Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Trees
This is one of my favorite views on Temple Square during the Christmas season. Even thought this tree is light from the bottom, many of the trees and bushes throughout the square are hand-strung with Christmas lights. I can’t imagine how many hours it takes, but the results are stunning each year.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Shades of Pink
July in Utah means one thing: fireworks. We have two big celebrations this month: Independence Day and Utah Founders Day. Our city celebrates its founding at the end of June, which also includes two days of carnival activities including massive fireworks displays each night. The Taylorsville Dayzz fireworks displays are timed to music and well coordinated. I was especially happy with this combination of different shades of pink they were able to put together. The color technology used in fireworks gets more and more impressive every year.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Fire
We’ve had the opportunity to visit Hawaii a couple of times the last few years, and each time we’ve been to a different luau on the island of Kauai. The highlight of the show at each of these luaus has been the fire dancers. Their skill with the fire sticks or flaming poi balls is amazing to watch. Fire is such an essential element. Without it, humans would never have figured out how to cook their food (not to mention no fire oven pizzas) or to heat their dwellings. I love building fires in the fireplace at our family cabin. It links me to my past. My grandmother and uncle gathered and hand-laid the stones in it. I’m fascinated by the movement of flames.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Shiny
While it might seem counter-intuitive to use a night shot for a shiny theme, I love how the lights on the Chain Bridge in Budapest, Hungary shine in the dark.
