A Photo a Week Challenge: Tilted

tilted_nmp

Have you ever tilted your camera on accident and then thought “Wow, that works!” If you have some time to work with your subject (or subjects), try some shots with your camera tiled from slightly to wildly and see what happens. It can add a unique twist to a commonplace image.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE PHOTOS THAT ARE AT A UNIQUE ANGLE.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Girl Power

girl_power_nmp

While it might seem a bit cliche, literally none of us would be here without women. All of our lives have been touched by women: mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, sisters. I was fortunately enough to take family photos for this wonderful group of women (and the men in their lives). What a great legacy.

Also, I could not do a challenge honoring women without including a photo of my own amazing mom. She is loving, supportive, intelligent, caring, and an amazing example of all that a woman can and should be. I love you, Mom.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Props

When doing a shoot for a child or high school senior, I tell my clients to bring things they are interested in. For small children, I suggest parents bring favorite toys. Having something familiar can help them relax and brings out really fun things in their personalities. Too many props can get in the way, but a few well-selected ones really help to make the portrait shoot more memorable and more fun for your clients.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE ONE OR TWO OR MORE PHOTOS FEATURING PEOPLE WITH PROPS.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Blue

blue_nmp

Last week’s challenge feature a little cutie who acted as a flower girl for her uncle’s wedding. This week, we have her just as adorable older brother, who was the perfect ring bearer. He totally rocked his assignment to carry the rings and to wear blue.

Blue is a cool, soothing color. It’s the color of water, sky, and blue jays. Nature is resplendent with various shades of blue.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO THAT FEATURES THE COLOR BLUE.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Photo a Week: Vintage

vintage_nmp

The vintage look is very popular right now. It’s a fun look to play around with. Most photo editing software will come with canned vintage presets you can apply to your images. In Photoshop, I use Curves, contrast, and saturation to get the vintage look I want. It’s fun and challenging at the same time.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE…) OF THAT HAVE OR USE A VINTAGE LOOK.

Note: Older photos you can in that naturally have a vintage look are welcome, too.
