A Photo a Week Challenge: Humor

Humor

The Google search dictionary give three different meanings for the word humor:

  1. The quality of being amusing or comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech.
  2. A mood or state of mind.
  3. To comply with the wishes of (someone) in order to keep them content, however unreasonable such wishes might be.

It’s been said that humor is one of the characteristics that separate humans from animals (though I feel like my dog is laughing at me most of the time). We use humor to connect with other people, to defuse tense situations, to brighten the day,  or to lighten a heavy heart. Humor illuminates our lives and lifts our hearts and is completely subjective. You might never understand why I find something funny. And that’s okay.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO OF SOMETHING OR SOMEONE THAT TICKLES YOUR FUNNY BONE.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

A Word a Week Challenge: Context and Figure

figure_contextI found this picture that fit the two newest challenges for the Word of the Week Photo Challenge. That was pretty lucky for me. I grabbed this picture a couple of years ago when we went out to dinner with my sister and her husband for his 50th birthday. As you can see from her expression, she’s not a big fan of the camera, but she will at least hold still for me when I ask her nicely.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

Licking the bowlThis week’s challenge is to have a tangible object in your photo as both the inspiration and subject of the photo. I do a lot of cooking and baking (a lot), and my husband is a big fan of licking the bowl/spoon/scraper/whatever, especially if there’s any kind of batter involved. For this challenge, I picked my favorite scraper as my object. The fact that my husband is attached to it is part and parcel of selecting it for my photo.

And just for kicks and giggles, here’s another one in black and white. Let me know which one you like better.

Photo bomb

I took my new camera to the piano recital last week so I could play around with it a bit and hopefully get some fun and great pictures. This is one of my favorites. The cutie in the back (and in focus) is the owner of the hands in my Steinway post. Just as I snapped this picture, her younger sister (also one of my students) decided she wanted in on the action. It’s one of the best photo bombs I’ve had the privilege to take.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unexpected

Really big carrotsWe love to garden. Every spring, we plan what we want to grow that year. We plot out what goes where and how much of each veggie to plant. We always plant carrots. We love carrots. We eat a lot of carrots. This year, we were surprised to find that although the carrots didn’t get long, they sure did get fat. Serendipitous for us.
