A Photo a Week Challenge: Red

red_nmp

It’s another color challenge! We love color challenges. I do love color challenges, because they allow a lot more freedom. Red has become one of my favorite colors. My closet is full of various shades of reds. I think it’s because red goes so well with my first favorite color, green. When photographing red, it can be tricky to make sure the color doesn’t take over too much. It can also shade the rest of the image, depending on the lighting. Good luck, photogbugs! Have fun with the color red.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A SERIES OF PHOTOS THAT FEATURE THE COLOR RED.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.

Our daughter got married this week. This image is from last December when she finally found the dress she wanted.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Romance

younglove_nmp

Over Christmas, my step-daughter and her wonderful boyfriend got engaged. We are so excited for them. They are wonderful together, and you can tell that they take very good care of each other. It’s been fun watching their relationship blossom from friendship to courtship to preparing for a lifetime together. They are so romantic, but not in an eye-rolling, overtly mushy way. They got it just right.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE…) THAT PORTRAYS ROMANCE.

A Photo a Week: Vintage

vintage_nmp

The vintage look is very popular right now. It’s a fun look to play around with. Most photo editing software will come with canned vintage presets you can apply to your images. In Photoshop, I use Curves, contrast, and saturation to get the vintage look I want. It’s fun and challenging at the same time.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE…) OF THAT HAVE OR USE A VINTAGE LOOK.

Note: Older photos you can in that naturally have a vintage look are welcome, too.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Soft

soft_nmp

Most photographers work hard to make sure that every shot is perfectly in focus. We love seeing every little detail pop from an image. For some shots, a softer, almost blurry feeling works better. It all depends on what ambiance you are trying to create. For this image, I didn’t do anything to the sharpness (or lack thereof) in the post-processing. I thought, given the intimate moment, that a softer feeling worked just great.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE…) THAT HAVE A SOFTER FOCUS, WHETHER ACCOMPLISHED NATURALLY OR THROUGH POST-PROCESSING.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Summer Memories

Halie and the frisbee

In the northern hemisphere, we are moving nicely into the heat and freedom of summer. In Utah, there are so many places to go and natural wonders to see, that the summer highways and byways are teaming with eager tourists ready to snap photos and create lasting memories. There are also quieter times during the summer that stay with us for our lifetimes, like a family outing to the park, throwing around a frisbee, and eating picnic food from paper plates.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO OF SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE SUMMER MEMORIES.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.
