Sunday Stills: Brown

Hot chocolate

I have a lot of brown in my life (my hair, sometimes my eyes, the world in Utah during spring), but I haven’t felt motivated to capture any of that in a photograph lately. I did enjoy my hot chocolate this morning, so that’s what you’re getting. Enjoy!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

Licking the bowlThis week’s challenge is to have a tangible object in your photo as both the inspiration and subject of the photo. I do a lot of cooking and baking (a lot), and my husband is a big fan of licking the bowl/spoon/scraper/whatever, especially if there’s any kind of batter involved. For this challenge, I picked my favorite scraper as my object. The fact that my husband is attached to it is part and parcel of selecting it for my photo.

And just for kicks and giggles, here’s another one in black and white. Let me know which one you like better.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Square

square_wp square2_wp

I love looking at different shapes. I love how they form our world, and how variety creates beauty. I also love baking. My sister introduced me to a square cupcake pan that I finally got around to using. It is amazing and fun.

Look around and find the squares around you. Blog an image that represents squares to you and post a link to your find here.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.

2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.

3. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Habits

Old habits die hardMost mornings, my breakfast consists of Greek yogurt and natural granola. I also don’t know if I could actually go a day without listening to music. It’s a side-effect of being a professional musician.
