A Photo a Week Challenge: Artsy

Artsy Aub

The digital medium for photography has really changed the availability of new and interesting ways to capture and process images. Twenty years ago (which for a lot of us feels more like ten), most people hadn’t heard of Photoshop (click here for a brief history of the evolution of Adobe® Photoshop®). Now, it’s the industry leader in photo editing software for professionals and amateurs, though by no means the only one.

For this image, I started with the black & white image below:

and decided to play with it a little and create a more artistic version of it. I used the sharpen tool to give it more of a gritty feel, and then added the filter Brush Stroke > Crosshatch.

Whether your artistic bent includes a head-long dive into software processing, dark room puttering, or letting the image speak for itself, it’s exciting to think of what we will be able to do with photography in the future as technology increases.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE PHOTOS THAT SHOW OFF YOUR ARTISTIC SIDE.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.
