A Photo a Week Challenge: Orange

orange_nmp

Orange is a really fun color to photograph. There are many things in nature that are orange: pumpkins, oranges, flowers. This little fellow really, really wanted to join his big brothers playing at the Christmas piano recital. Even though he was a little young to take lessons, he came all ready in his dapper orange sweater. He was also thrilled to get a chance at the 9′ concert Steinway grand piano after the formal recital was over.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE PHOTOS THAT FEATURE THE COLOR ORANGE.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Get Your Green On

green16_nmp

In  honor of St. Patrick’s Day, this week’s challenge is the color green. Even though it is not a primary color, green is one of the most basic colors in our world. Nature is full of green, like our friend the drake here. It is also a color that is used by so many people in buildings and design. Green is calming and soothing. I find it refreshing. As I’ve mentioned before on this blog, it is my favorite color. So, it’s time to get your green on!

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO THAT INCLUDE THE COLOR GREEN.

Look around (or through your photo archives) and find images of green to share.  Then blog your experiments and post a link to your masterpieces here.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Blue or Purple Flowers

In August, I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding reception that featured a cake with this amazing cascade of blue-purple roses.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Pretty in Pink

pretty_pink_nmp

Color is such an important part of our visual experience. It goes hand-in-hand with light in drawing us to or away from an image. For this bride (whose gown was a beautiful ivory), the perfect complimentary color for her bridesmaids and matron was pink. The soft, subtle hue of her attendants’ dresses created a lovely feeling for the wedding party. Although pink has never been on my radar as a favorite color, I find that it really is an easy color to photograph in a variety of shades and subjects.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE OR…) OF FEATURING THE COLOR PINK.
