A Photo a Week Challenge: Lights

With the Christmas season upon us, lights have become an important part of most people’s homes and cubicles at work. At the Draper City Park, this tree is the center point of their light display. To get this shot, I placed my tripod on the hill overlooking the tree and asked people to let me get a clear shot.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections

Most Christians hope that our lives reflect the perfect life of Christ. This picture was taken during Christmas time at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. This manger scene is in the middle of a large reflecting pond in front of the main gates of the temple. The gold lights reflected off the water and illuminated the area perfectly to make this shot possible.

Our niece loves my husband. At most family gatherings, you’ll find her following him around, asking him to pick her up, and trying to do whatever he is doing. On Christmas Day, she was so happy to have some Uncle Russell time. Her love brings us joy, and we hope that we give her some, too.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Community

Community theater is a big thing in the Salt Lake Valley. My husband and I have performed with many theater companies in the city. The theater community is a tight-knit group who work hard and play hard together. This picture is from the West Jordan Arts Council production of A Christmas Carol. My husband plays Peter Greenlaw, a character usually left out of movies and stage shows, but is in the Dickens story.

Temple Under Glass

If you’ve been to Salt Lake City, then you know that one of the most popular tourist attractions is the majestic LDS (aka Mormon) Temple in the heart of the city. This building took the Mormon settlers 40 years to build, including the need to repour the foundation because they buried it when they thought a division of the U.S. Army was coming to attack them and then they discovered a crack in it when they excavated to continue construction. The granite used to build it was quarried from a canyon on the east side of the valley. This picture was taken through the picture windows in the Visitor’s Center just south of the temple on Temple Square. I took this picture at Christmas time, when the square is decorated with thousands of lights and a life-sized nativity for the holiday.
