A Photo a Week Challenge: Changing Seasons

Monday was officially the first day of fall here in the northern hemisphere. We’ve had an interesting spring and summer in Utah. We started with a lot of rain in June, followed by almost no rain in July, and then a bit of a mixed bag in August. September has been undecided in its weather loyalties, going from highs in the upper 90s in Salt Lake City, to barely cracking the low 60s. We have a saying (that is probably common to 90% of the world): “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes and it will change.”

We are now in my favorite time of year. I love everything about fall. I love the changing leaves, the crisp feeling of a chill in the air, every holiday between now and New Years, and even a bit of snow.

Whether you are going from summer to fall or winter to spring, the changing of the seasons reminds us of the beauty of this amazing world we live in.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) OF THAT DEPICT SEASONS.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Signs of Fall

In the northern hemisphere, tomorrow (September 22) is the first day of fall. The weather is turning cool, the kids are back in school, and the foliage is putting on a brilliant color show. Fall is my favorite time of year. It has my favorite holidays (Thanksgiving, Halloween, and the build up to Christmas). I love pulling out sweaters and drinking hot chocolate. I even look forward to the first real snow fall (though I’m completely sick of the white stuff by January 4). Welcome, fall! Please hang out with us for a while.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE OR…) OF THINGS THAT MEAN FALL TO YOU.

A Photo a Week Challenge: A Change in the Weather

Mirror Lake Highway moving storm

In Utah, the weather can change very quickly. During the fall and winter, you hear people saying “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.” I’ve always found it interesting that if the forecast calls for rain, the chance has to be higher than 75% for it actually happen. With snow, it only has to be 15% for it to happen. I’ve watched a weather forecast where they were predicting a 20% chance of snow while it was actually snowing at same the time. On a beautiful fall Sunday afternoon, we took a drive up in the Uintas. As we were heading back down the mountainside, a storm started moving in, and this was our view.
