A Photo a Week Challenge: Aquamarine

aquamarine_nmp

It’s time for another color challenge! Yay! The waters around Hawaii are a beautiful variety of aquamarines. In this photo, you can see the gradual (and sometimes not so gradual) shift from the lighter to the deeper shade of this amazing color. The deeper the water, the deeper the color. So it’s time to get your Pacific Ocean inspired colors on and take or find images with this jewel-shade of the waters.

(P.S. If you are planning any underwater photography in aquamarine waters, the experts recommend a red filter for your camera to counterbalance the affects of the water color. It really does work.)

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) FEATURING THE COLOR AQUAMARINE.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Hats

Lugano hat

I’m so glad that hats are back in style. They can add so much character to an outfit. I grabbed this photo of my niece on a boat trip on Lake Lugano. We bought hats from a vendor at the dock and were grateful for the shade as well as the fun styles. They even traveled back to the States in great shape.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO OF HATS AND VARIOUS FORMS OF HEADGEAR.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Abandoned

abandoned_wpWhile this dilapidated barn may seem abandoned, it is actually a fully-functioning barn for the property where it lives, but it’s weathered look really makes you think it’s no longer used. The next shot is of a barn that is no longer used as anything except for temporary shelter for the horses pasturing in the same field where it lives.

abandoned2_wpAnd my final picture for this challenge is one I blogged last year for another challenge (carefree). I think this expresses the other well-known meaning of abandoned perfectly.

Sunday Stills Challenge: Boats

Fishing boatWe love fishing, but usually do it from the shore. While visiting family in California last fall, we had a blast boat fishing. We didn’t catch anything, but it was still so much fun.
