A Photo a Week: Smooth

Beautiful Baby O

Sorry I’m a little late this week. You may have seen a few of the photos from Baby O’s newborn shoot. He is not only a darling little guy, but he has the most amazingly smooth skin. The saying “Smooth as a baby’s skin” doesn’t lie. Textures are fun to play with in photography. The more types of textures in our image, the more interest it has. For this week, find the unique and interesting smooth textures around you.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO OF SOMETHING SMOOTH.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Love of a parent

Baby O and Mommy

I think my favorite type of portrait photography is taking almost candid shots of parents with their children. You can feel love in every look and touch. And there is not much that’s as sweet as a mother with her newborn baby. I had the opportunity to take newborn photos of Baby O and also snagged a couple of pictures of him with his lovely mama before the “official” shoot started. You can sense the care and gentle love in her hand as she cradles his head. And how sweet is her slight smile as she rocks her baby?

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO THAT DEPICTS THE LOVE OF A PARENT FOR A CHILD.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Something New

Welcoming Baby O

Because today is New Year’s Day, this week’s challenge is all about new things. Many people use ending of one year and the beginning of another as a time to throw out old habits or things and replace them with something new and hopefully improved, maybe a nice Christmas present. For our nephew and his family, this Christmas and New Years brought this little guy (number 6 for them). He is beautiful and sweet and the perfect “new” for everyone.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

A Word a Week: Create

Family G having funOne of my favorite things to create is memories. Not only is this a great family, but they are actually part of my extended family, and I’m grateful they entrusted me with capturing this particular memory for them.

Sunday Stills: Face Time

Baby R is back

Baby R is back and still as cute as ever. The roses from A Baker’s Dozen Roses belong to his grandma, so he and his parents came along for the shoot, which meant I got to grab some more pictures of him and his sweet family.

More from Sunday Stills here.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrasts

Texas State Capitol Papa and Baby CThis week’s photo challenge is about contrasts. The pictures I’m using show two different kinds of contrast.

In the first one, I used my photo editing software to bump up the contrast and saturation to enhance the striking difference between the deep colors of the trees and the facade of the building.

The second picture is of Baby C and his great-grandpapa, one life at the beginning and the other nearing the end of a long and very productive time on this earth.

Baby C

So lucky to have the chance to photography this little guy. He is so expressive and cute, with his red hair and blue eyes. Thanks, Baby C, and thanks, Baby C’s Mommy and Daddy, for a fun shoot.

At first, all he wanted to do was sleep.
