A Photo a Week Challenge: Anything

I like open topics, because it gives everyone a chance to be creative. I recently purchased a Lensball (an upgrade from the small crystal ball I bought from Amazon), and I had fun playing around with it. I need a bit more practice getting truly sharp images in it, but I’m happy with how this one turned out.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Light and Dark

During times like this, is can seem as though there is no light. I believe that we need opposition in all things. Without bitter, we can’t savor sweetness. Without pain, we can’t comprehend bliss. Without dark, we can’t understand light. Contrast in art is important to help create substance and focus. We smoked some corn on the cob on our Traeger, and I loved how the husks turned out. I put them in a stock pot on my stove to capture this image. I don’t know what I enjoyed more: photographing or eating them. (Just kidding. They tasted amazing!)

A Photo a Week Challenge: Just for Fun

With the stress of lockdown (or semi-lockdown, depending on where you live), I thought we could all use another de-stressing challenge. A couple of years ago, I bought a small crystal ball to use in my photography but hadn’t gotten around to trying it out. With the tulips and early bulb flowers in bloom right now, it seems like a good time to see how it worked. It worked just great. I did make my husband worry a bit when I told him it was a standard crystal ball and not one made specifically for photography, but I also assured him that I wasn’t planning on following Professor Trelawney from the Harry Potter books into divination. I really did buy this to use for photography.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass

Wow, this whole social distancing and self-isolation is starting to take a toll on my ability to remember simple things, like the fact that I host a weekly photo challenge. So sorry to everyone about my absence last week. I can’t promise that it won’t happen again, but I’ll try to do better going forward.

For this week, I’ve chosen the theme of glass. One thing I’ve done a bit more of is baking. This is one of the bowls I like to put my dough in to rise. It’s the perfect size for the recipe I use, and even though the outside of the bowl is ridged, the inside is beautifully smooth. I also love how the light plays with the ridges in the reflection on the table.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Three Angles

The rule of threes is widely known and used in art of all kinds, especially photography. Today, instead of using the rule of three in a single image, I’m asking you to show a single object from three different angles. My images are of a recently finished project that we had the privilege of working on. I think this building and parking structure are rather stunning. It was a really fun project to work on.

I’m a sucker for a beautiful clouds. Fluffy clouds. Streaky clouds. Dark and foreboding or airy and almost not there. I’ve never met a cloud I couldn’t love. I also love taking photos of clouds.
