Thankful November 2nd: The Beauties of the Earth

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.
Folliott S. Pierpoint, 1835-1917

I have been lucky enough to do a bit of traveling around this amazing planet on which we live (that sentence structure is a nod to all of my English professors at the University of Utah). I’ve been to Asia, Europe, Mexico, Great Britain, and most of the United States of America. Everywhere I go, I find beautiful things to photograph and wonderful people who fill my heart with happiness.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Look Up

lookup_nmp

Looking back through past challenges, I found that I haven’t done a “look up” challenge for a long time, if ever. Trying a different perspective is a great way to enhance your photography. Looking up, looking down, taking a picture from ground level or from an airplane window. All of these are fun ways to change things up. My photo is the ceiling of the Fribourg Cathedral in Fribourg, Switzerland. I’m really glad my husband said, “Look up!” Otherwise, I would have missed this amazing view.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) OF THINGS ABOVE YOU.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Scale

I live at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. The peaks are majestic and awe-inspiring, and not a little intimidating for people who aren’t used to being surrounded by very tall mountains.

The first picture (taken this week) is from a freeway overpass looking the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. The second picture (taken June 2016) is of Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland.

Very few cars are allowed in the small Swiss town of Gruyère, so you have to be prepared to walk when you go there.

Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Structure

Last week, I shared a black & white version of this little guy. Here he is in his full-color glory. The detailed lines on his shell is fascinating.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Order

Last summer, we toured the Nestlé Maison Cailler chocolate factory in Broc, Switzerland. Talk about sweet order.
