Sunday Stills Challenge: Boats

Fishing boatWe love fishing, but usually do it from the shore. While visiting family in California last fall, we had a blast boat fishing. We didn’t catch anything, but it was still so much fun.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

Inside the piano

Inside a grand pianoI’ve taught piano for almost 30 years. These pictures are the inside of the Steinway 9′ concert piano my students play at recitals, thanks to Daynes Music Company in Salt Lake City. (The big black thing at the bottom left of the second picture is a mic that allows the store to record the performances and provide me with a nice CD I can copy and give to the students.)

A Word a Week Challenge: Square

London and it’s boroughs abound with squares. We stayed in a lovely bed & breakfast in Norfolk Square (easy walking distance from Paddington Station).

Weekly Photo Challenge: An Unusual POV

Westminster Abby, London

I’m not sure if this is an unusual point of view, as thousands of people walk past the front of Westminster Abbey in London each month (possibly each day), but I don’t know how many take the time to look up.

A Word a Week Challenge: Ornate

Red Dahlia in profile

So, I found another photo challenge blog. I’m very excited about this one, too. I find that many flowers are amazingly intricate and naturally ornate, especially dahlias.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sea

Pfeiffer Bay in Big SurI was probably younger than two the first time I saw the ocean, so I don’t remember how I felt. I love the water. I love hearing the waves crash on the shore. I love the fresh smell of the ocean. I wish I lived closer to the ocean, but for now, I’ll take the Great Salt Lake, even with the brine shrimp (which you do not eat).

Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus

focalpoint2 Focus challenge #1This week’s challenge is about focal points and perspective. I used two different lenses to create the different focus types. The top one is with a standard 18mm-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G (at 18mm wide angle) kit lens. The bottom one is with a 50mm 1:1.8G lens.

Weekly photo challenge: Foreshadowing

Dad MerrillMemorial Day 2012, my husband and I went with his parents to visit the cemeteries and put flowers on family graves. Dad was very tired, and we found this bench where he could rest and enjoy the view. This Memorial Day, we visited his grave and honored him with flowers. We miss you, Dad.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece

cathedral_coyote_gulchMy husband had tried to describe this place to me for three years before we were able to go together. While backpacking in Coyote Gulch in the Utah Escalante area, you round a corner just past Jacob Hamblin Arch and this is what you find: the Cathedral. This amazing room has been  slowly carved over centuries by water. Whether you attribute it to God or nature, you cannot deny that this is truly a natural masterpiece.
