A Photo a Week Challenge: Blue

blue_nmp

While in Hawaii, it is impossible to escape two colors: green and blue. The beautiful, perfect blues of the Pacific Ocean made the perfect backdrop for our friend’s wedding. Blue is a cool, soothing color. It’s the color of water, sky, and blue jays. Nature is resplendent with various shades of blue.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO THAT FEATURES THE COLOR BLUE.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Through Glass

through_glass_nmp

I seem to fancy photos involving glass this time each year. Last week, my mother, sister, and I bottled what we call chow chow (also known as mustard pickles). I don’t know how it got the name chow chow, but that’s what my grandmother called it. I love the tangy taste of the mustard sauce on all of the other ingredients, which include cucumbers, pearl onions, and cauliflower. When I was a kid, I wondered why my mom and grandmother only used pints for bottling them. I don’t wonder anymore. Cutting up the veggies and pealing those tiny onions for 23 pints was enough to make my look crosseyed and vow to not do this again for another two years, but they sure look pretty through the glass of the jars.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE OR…) OF ITEMS VIEWED THROUGH GLASS OF ANY KIND.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography. Here’s how it works:

A Photo a Week Challenge: Delicate

Sorry about the late night posting for this challenge. It’s been a couple of crazy, stressful weeks. But that’s for another time. This week’s challenge is delicate. These beautiful blossoms drew me, and I’ve used other images from this same shoot for other challenges. I love the delicate look of the petals and the delicate pink coloring.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Gold

gold_nmp

Last fall, I had the privilege of taking senior photos for my nephew. My sister’s yard is an amazing place to do photo sessions, and she’s been so gracious to let me use it whenever possible. As we were walking back to the house after a few shots outside the yard, I grabbed this photo. During editing, I fell in love with how washed in gold it was. Golden Hour becomes truly golden during the fall.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO FEATURING THE COLOR GOLD.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Orange

orange_nmp

Orange is a really fun color to photograph. There are many things in nature that are orange: pumpkins, oranges, flowers. This little fellow really, really wanted to join his big brothers playing at the Christmas piano recital. Even though he was a little young to take lessons, he came all ready in his dapper orange sweater. He was also thrilled to get a chance at the 9′ concert Steinway grand piano after the formal recital was over.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE PHOTOS THAT FEATURE THE COLOR ORANGE.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Green

green18_nmp

I might make this an annual challenge. St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, and I will of course be wearing green. And eating corned beef and cabbage. I am Irish on both sides, and I love green. I don’t remember the name of this waterfall, but it was one of my favorites on Kauai. And look at all of that green!
