Cee’s Black & White: Construction

Birkhill Construction

This week’s challenge was a little easier for me than usual. My husband is a structural engineer, and I frequently take pictures of job sites for the company.

After Before Friday One Photo Focus Week 35

This is my second time participating in Stacy Fisher’s After Before Friday challenge. This week, we were all given the same photo to process. Here’s the original:

Week 34 One Photo Focus image

First, I used PhotoShops’s RAW converter to make the following adjustments:

ABF Week 34 RAW settings

Here is the photo after opening it from the converter:

Next, I changed the photo to black and white. Then I heightened the sharpness to give it a slightly gritty, urban feel.

And finally, I added more fog using a gradient layer.

Travel Theme: Colorful

Tobermory, Isle of Mull, Scotland

Tobermory is the largest town on the Isle of Mull. It’s a beautiful sea port with colorful houses and beautiful trees. I especially love the reflection of the buildings in the bay.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Signs

Kamas theater sign

Our world is filled with signs. Some are big and brassy; some are small and easily overlooked. There are also non-advertising signs, like the signs we get from another person’s body language or an amazingly well-timed note from a friend. This sign hangs over the entry to the only movie theater in a small mountain town. It’s an amazing piece of Americana that still looks super at night when it’s lit.

IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO OF SIGNS.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
  3. Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
  4. Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

Sunday Stills: Lookin’ Through Windows

Temple Square through the windows of Abravenel HallThis amazing view of Temple Square is from the second level balcony inside Abravanel Hall (aka Symphony Hall) in Salt Lake City. The Dale Chihuly orange glass sculpture was commissioned for 2002 Winter Olympic.
