Post-processing can be so much fun. You can do so many different things with a single image. I was recently playing around with some HDR actions in Photoshop on an image of the Payson Utah LDS Temple. The differences between the the photos was stunning and amazing. The first image is the original with only basic RAW conversion tweaks. The second and third are using some actions I found on InkyDeals. They are fun and very dramatic. Let me know which you like the best out of the three.

I recently asked my husband for some ideas on challenge themes. He very graciously came up with two: Textures (last week’s theme) and Details (this week’s). I had a good idea what I wanted to do for last week’s theme, but this week, my husband asked if I would use a couple of his pictures. As a structural engineer, he has an amazing eye for details. He is also very creative and artistic, which means that when you put a camera in his hands, you get amazing pictures. The fun gargoyle is a detail on the Cathedral of Basel in Switzerland that is best viewed from the tower. The Cathedral is an impressive edifice that makes a stunning image for a calendar, but the gargoyle is a great story piece on its own. If you look closely, you can see the gargoyles sticking out near the base of the tower caps.

Because the featured photos are my husband’s, I decided to add my own. First a broad view of the Salt Lake Valley at sunset.

And a closer view of the point where the sun is setting behind the Oquirrh Mountains.

This week, Cee has decided to let us all choose our own subjects. Mine is a lovely old tree in front of the LDS Los Angeles Temple. Many a bride and groom have had their photos taken under this tree.

When my husband was researching places to go for our trip to Switzerland and Germany, he discovered St. Coloman Church outside Schwangau, Germany. It may be the most photographed building in the area, aside from the castles. It’s location (you can see Neuschwanstein in the background) makes it ideally placed for a great photo opt, not to mention that it’s just a beautiful building in its own right. It sits in a field with no other buildings near it. The mountains and far-away castle give it an other-worldly feeling. In a trip filled with amazing locations and places to photograph, this was one of my favorites.
