Utah and Arizona are well known for their red rock country. Many areas in southern Utah include butte mountain formations where it looks like the ground just dropped away, leaving a flat tabletop. The environs around Lake Powell have several of these formations. This year, with the severe drought, the lake is at its lowest level in history making the strata lines in the hills and mountains are even more striking. The lower white portion that you can see in the photo is usually under water. This year, the lake is 146′ below what is considered full pool level.
IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) OF HORIZONTAL LINES.
Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.
Here’s how it works:
- Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
- To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
- Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
- Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.
Wonderful colours. I love your Utah views.
Thanks! Utah has so much natural diversity it’s really fun to drive around and take pictures everywhere.
What do yo know? Had the sky image with all these horizontal lines already on my blog before coming here. Have a happy Monday!
Great!
Sorry, here’s the perma link. https://livingbetweentworealms.wordpress.com/2021/08/03/upside-down
That is an amazing photo Nancy 🙂 🙂
Hi Nancy, you have such a wonderful landscape showing different horizons. Beautiful.
Here is my entry for the week.
Thanks, Cee!
Happy Tuesday Nancy!
I’m so sorry about the drought. We finally broke our decade long drought, but at its worst it was never as bad as yours has been. Still, the photograph is magnificent! Let’s hope that you get some rain magic and the next time you are back there, those lines will again be underwater.
We’ve had some good storms come through lately, unfortunately they have brought flooding in some areas. The true example of “when it rains, it pours”.
Have you ever thought of creating a groovy banner for the Photo a Week Challenge? Here is my humble contribution: https://ecstaticeclectica.com/2021/08/03/photo-a-week-challenge-horizontal-lines-august-3-2021/
I’m so happy I could join in this challenge!
Stunning image Nancy… you have such beautiful scenery over there… Here is my contribution for the challenge. https://brashley.photography/2021/08/04/a-photo-a-week-challenge-horizontal-lines/
Beautiful scenery and lovely horizontal pattern!
Thanks!
Thank you Nancy M for the inspiration
😊
Oops. I am so sorry. I just noticed that the prompt is ‘Horizontal Lines” not “Parallel Lines.” My bad. At least some of my photos are horizontal. I’ll try to be more careful next time. (Embarrassed.)
No problem. All lines are welcome. 🙂
Although it’s been years, I always love the southwest. Arizona & New Mexico
have unique terrains. They are my favorite states with Colorado not far behind.
Your photograph showcases the colors perfectly. Thanks for hosting … Be Safe 😷
Isadora 😎
Thanks! I love that area, too.
146′ below normal? That’s mind-boggling. Love the photo though.
Thanks!
Very late this week, but here are some lines for you, and not just horizontal 🙂
