We have a popular hymn at our church called There Is Sunshine In My Soul. I love the words to the first verse:
There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.
This song reminds me to find light even on cloudy days.
This last weekend, we visited our daughter and son-in-law in Chicago. As a surprise, we took our son with us. It was his first trip to Chicago, and our daughter didn’t know we were bringing him. The kids have had a difficult year. Their mom was killed in August, and they’ve struggled to find any sunshine through their grief and pain. This weekend helped me to know that they will make it through and help each other as they navigate these new waters.
IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE) OF SUNSHINE
Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.
Here’s how it works:
- Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
- To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
- Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
- Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.
What a beautiful mosaic, Nancy. Please can I offer my heartfelt condolences to your family for the loss of your son’s partner and your daughter-in-law. Kind regards. Tracy.
Thanks, Tracy.
Lovely smiles on their faces 🙂
Interestingly, I shared few sunny snaps earlier this week for another photo challenge and they are just shiny enough for your challenge too 🙂

It’s weird since I’m not a Christian, but I do so love church music. It is uplifting and beautiful to hear and sing. And that’s a beautiful picture, too.
Thanks, Marilyn. I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes known as Mormons or LDS), and we just had our semi-annual general conference. One of the highlights for me each time is the music. The Tabernacle Choir (famously known as the MoTab) always has amazing arrangements. Mack Wilberg, who is the current director, used to be the head of the choral program at Brigham Young University. His choirs were always winning national and international awards.
The sunny mosaic has them smiling, sorry for the loss your in your family
Thank you.
This is for the Sun challenge, https://wp.me/p9EWyp-Mc
– I don’t know the hymn, but I couldn’t agree mote to the words!
Since I know more about your views now, please look at my post “The Time I almost …. ” I think you would like it.
With that a question,
I very much would like to incorporate your challenge into my weekly post (where I incorporate all challenges of the week, starting with Thursday to the next Wednesday) – does that include “a new post” or do you want it separated from the other challenges? Please let me know!
I did really enjoy your post “The Time I almost…” As far as contributing to my challenges, please feel free to handle them however works for you. There are several people who include my challenge on a post with several other challenges and some who do a new, separate post. Thanks for joining in!
About my post “The time I almost…” sometimes when one is in the middle of a journey, it’s easy to think “I’m outside the box” forgetting that even with creativity, one can be guided by logic in looking for a subject that would fit the conference. Was jolted into God sometimes using us for that one sheep that is almost going off the deep end.
Forgot: thank you for answering my question about the photo challenge!
You’re welcome!
That is a perfect picture to remind you of happier times and a future with opportunities for moments of smiles. Hugs and prayers to you and your family for your loss. xx
Thank you, Shelley. ❤
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. This is a beautiful hymn, and a great photo.
Thanks, Erica.
