I love editing in black and white. When I was still shooting with film, I loved using black and white dedicated film, especially for slides. There’s something amazing about black and white images. They are instantly nostalgic and artistic. Street photography seems to be especially suited for black and white treatments.
IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO OR TWO (OR MORE).
Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.
Here’s how it works:
- Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
- To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
- Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
- Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.
I don’t play with black and white enough.

So true. Black and white have their own magic. Lovely photo.
Thanks!
I hope the bass the young man is carrying isn’t too heavy. Nicely photographed, Nancy. Hope you enjoy my entries.
Isadora 😎
It’s actually a cello. These cases are pretty well balanced to make carrying them this way as comfortable as a standard backpack. 🙂
Street photographs do have a different feel to them in B&W. Wonderful shot, Nancy!
Thanks, Anita!
Hi, I’m enjoying a bit of black & white exploration at the moment. https://firehorse.world/2019/02/21/postaday-blackandwhite/
I do wonder that why human expressions looks so amazing in black and white, rather than color. Many famous photographers love to capture human facial expressions in black and white and their snaps are really remarkable.
I’m not sure why either, but that is very true. I love portrait photography in black & white, and I always give my clients a color and a black & white version of each edited image.
Black and White photis are always beautifully dramatic. Here’s my take on this week’s challenge.
Here’s my black & white:
Great street shot.. ;-).. My entry.. http://blog.lisabradshaw.com/?p=389
Even with all that is going on in your photo, that young man really stands out. Really good choice for a black and white treatment in my opinion. It was beautiful here yesterday and I shot some photos at an American Military Cemetery here in Cambridge, here is the result: https://wp.me/p2owKx-16G
Cheers!
Nice shot Nancy. Here are a couple from central London – https://2e0mca.wordpress.com/2019/02/27/a-photo-a-week-challenge-black-white/
