In honor of Halloween next Tuesday, this week is all about the spooks, scares, and traditions of this holiday. My husband and I like carving pumpkins. This year, he found the biggest pumpkin I have ever owned. It weighs over 50 pounds. I doubt it will be vandalized because the kids in our neighborhood who are into that sort of things are really wimpy. I’ve also baked cookies and two weeks ago we bought the Costco-sized bag of chocolate to give out. We will stay in that night and watch The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, a spoof of the 50s and 60s B horror/SciFi movies. Wonderfully campy and horrible dialogue. What are your Halloween traditions?
IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE OR…) OF OUR HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS OR JUST THINGS THAT YOU THINK ARE INDICATIVE OF THE SEASON.
Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography. Here’s how it works:
- Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
- To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
- Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
- Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.

What a perfect pumpkin! And perfect timing as usual. I was just at a Halloween display on Tuesday!
One perfect pumpkin on the porch. Elegantly Halloween ✨
Thanks, Marilyn! Russell found it and had the onerous task of lugging to the car and then to the porch. He said he thinks it weighs 70 pounds. It’s a very dense pumpkin.
Hi Nancy, your photo is so beautifully composed. 😀
Here is my entry for this week.

Hi Nancy, My first time entering one of your challenges…hope this is spooky enough!
Thank you Nancy for this great challenge. Your photo is awesome and the backstory makes it so interesting as well.
Here is mine for this week.
Just caught the end of the Bram Stoker festival in Dublin. Here are some images from that: https://elostravels.wordpress.com/2017/10/30/a-photo-a-week-challenge-halloween/
