Cee’s Black & White Challenge: Things That Fly

Swans are ubiquitous in Switzerland and southern Germany. Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are both named for the beautiful birds. Although they can fly, swans are more well-known for their beauty and grace in the water. The first picture is at Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. The fountain is at Hohenschwangau in Germany.

  1. Swans fly beautifully, but they have a lot of trouble getting up in the air, so they run furiously along the water flapping madly. Also true of loons … but geese don’t seem to have any trouble getting airborne. TMI?

  2. I live in Switzerland, near Solothurn and just a 3-4 minute walk down the path to the River Aar, so I know what you mean. The swans disappeared for the last month but now they are back. We have many, and I am sure they were busy sitting on their eggs in the meanwhile. The have a nest just under the bridge in Solothurn on a piece of land next to the river. Wonderful birds. I often include photos of them in my blogs.

    1. We visited Solothurn during our trip last summer. Lovely town! We stopped for dinner and wished we had more time to spend there. We thoroughly enjoyed all of our time in Switzerland and hope to come again soon!
