I have a confession to make. I enjoy profiles more than standard portraits. I know that sounds a little off for someone trying to build a business as a portrait/wedding photographer, but it’s true. I think you get some of the most interesting expressions when your subject isn’t looking at the camera. Sometimes you capture a pensive look, sometimes something more mischievous.
IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PHOTO OR TWO THAT INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE SUBJECT IN PROFILE.
Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.
Here’s how it works:
- Each week, I’ll come up with a theme and post a photo that I think fits. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Thursday, when the next photo theme will be announced.
- To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “A Photo a Week Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ and “Photo a Week” tags.
- Come back here and post a link to your image in the comments for this challenge.
- Follow nancy merrill photography so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements.
Who is that cute baby in your header???
My header rotates randomly and I have images of more than one baby, so I can’t say for sure. A great-niece or nephew, in all likelihood.
Hahaha, he/she is definitely cute!
This was a hard one for me, and made me realzie I need to take more photos in profile! https://dailymusing57.wordpress.com/2014/12/11/a-photo-a-week-challenge-profile/
These two photos really illustrate your point very well, Nancy. What a cute little guy! 🙂
He is, and he loves to have his picture taken.
I love how the light shines through her hair in the first photo.:D
This was taken at an October wedding last year, and the evening had perfect for the ceremony and picture taking. 🙂 Thanks, Raewyn!
I agree. Candid shots are much more interesting than formal portraits … and everyone has “a good side” if you look for it 🙂 Clearly, you have found their good sides!
Thanks, Marilyn!

Hi Nancy. The images are beautiful. Here’s my entry. http://tokillamimingbird.wordpress.com/2014/12/16/a-photo-a-week-challenge-profile/
Totally agree with you Nancy. It feels so awkward to actually get ready for a photo shoot. We feel, capturing those moments that were actually missed is a challenge! 🙂
Yes , profiles are very interesting.
